April 7-8 - Dueling Over a Grand, Elk Lake.  Crews race head to head at Dueling Over a Grand. Only two boats race per heat and the crew that wins advances into the next round of racing. There is a double knock-out format so the crew that loses for their first heat is given a second chance. A small number of NRC rowers attended and had some great results.

    2nd Jr B Mens 1X - Condor

March 30-31 - 7th Annual 24-hour Rowathon.  Thanks to all the rowers that participated in the rowathon.  The rowathon is our major fundraiser each year and is generally used towards equipment purchases.  Final amount raised will posted as soon as it is tallied.

March 29 - Don and Sarah - Congratulations from everyone on the safe arrival of Eliot (Eli) Alexander.  Eli was born on March 29th at 2:28 am, weighing 7 lb 11 oz.

March 3-4 - Elk Lake Spring Regatta.  We actually managed to get in a whole regatta!  There was a brief scare on Saturday morning when things were delayed for an hour because of fog.  The whole weekend was notable, also, for the lack of rain!!  Awesome.  Nanaimo rowers did very well (unfortunately a link to the full results does not seem to be available).  Here is a brief rundown on how we did.  Apologies if anyone's results are left out.

   1st Jr Mens lightweight 4+
    1st Jr Womens 2X B final
    3rd and 4th Jr Mens 4X
    3rd and 4th Jr Mens 1X
    3rd Jr Mens 2X
    3rd Novice Mens 4X
    3rd Novice Womens 4X
    4th Jr Womens 4X

February 4 - Monster Erg at UVic.  Only a handful of Nanaimo rowers attended Monster Erg this year but everyone did well.  In the Junior A Men's Lightweight category Jeff was 2nd and Craig was fourth.  Both were "Tough Enough" and have the t-shirts to prove it!  Connor and Zack did well in the Junior B and Junior A Men's categories, respectively.  Nanaimo newcomer, David, did really well in the Junior Men's novice category against some much older competition.  In addition, sometime Nanaimo rower, Jason, won the Junior A Men's category.  Full Monster Erg results are posted on the UVic site.

February 3 - 2nd Annual Nanaimo Sport Achievement Awards.  Our illustrious head coach, Don, was the winner as High Performance Coach of the Year.  Don was recognized for all his hard work and the outstanding results of the rowers in 2006.  Congratulations from all of us, Don!!  Your dedication is amazing.

November 17 - The ABBA CADABRA fundraiser was a huge success!!  The club raised about $4800 through ticket sales and the Silent Auction.  Proceeds will be split between the Boathouse Fund and purchasing new equipment.  BIG thanks to everyone that helped with the event and especially to Daryl, Barb, and Holly.  In addition, we want to acknowledge the sponsorship of TD Mutual Funds and Mawer Investment Management Ltd.

November 11-12 - Head of the Lake, Seattle.  A group of experienced Nanaimo rowers headed down for the 26th Annual Head of the Lake Regatta.  Once again, disappointment was the word of the day.  Weather forced the cancellation of the regatta even before it started - the first time in the history of this regatta.  Fortunately the sightseeing and shopping was good.

November 4 - Maple Bay.  This Maple Bay/Nanaimo Regatta is meant to be a fun day where the novice rowers get their first chance to race.  However, it was another incredibly wet and windy day and less that a quarter of the races were completed before the regatta was cancelled!!  Those that rowed got very, very wet.

October 29 - Head of the Elk.  The weather was not quite so great for this race.  The morning flight was completed in very wet conditions.  Then the wind picked up and unfortunately the afternoon flight was cancelled.

October 28 - Head of the Gorge.  Once again it was a beautiful day at the Gorge.  The narrows were running fast and it was almost as entertaining watching the rowers make their way up to the start line as it was to watch the race.  NRC had some good results.

September 16 - The first of the new boats, a competitive single and two recreational singles, arrived on September 16th!!  The boats, purchased from funds received as a direct access grant from the Province of BC, are a welcome addition to our fleet.

August 20-27 - World Rowing Championships, Eton, England.  Congratulations to Nanaimo Rowing Club adaptive rower, Tony Theriault, and team mates for earning a BRONZE medal at the World Championships in Eton, England.  More information on the Rowing Canada website.

August 8-13 - Royal Canadian Henley, St. Catharines, Ontario.  Nanaimo Rowing Club member, Tony Theriault, earned gold competing as a member of the Canadian National Adaptive rowing team in the  LTA coxed four.

July 29 - Nelson SprintsPhotos have been posted by the Nelson Rowing Club.

July 15-16 - BC Champs Regatta, Elk Lake - results are posted.

June 2-4 - Canadian Secondary School Rowing Association Regatta, St. Catharines, Ontario - These are the Canadian high school championships.  Six rowers from the Nanaimo Rowing Club represented their high schools in this regatta.  The senior (grade 11-12) boys lightweight coxed four from Wellington Secondary earned a bronze medal.  The same four boys also competed in the senior boys heavyweight quad and were 5th in the final.

The sixth NRC rower, from Malaspina International High School, competed in both the senior and junior single events.  He did an awesome job and made it to the final in his junior event.

Congratulations to all the rowers and their coaches!!!
